DIAMOND : Big Diamond readies for 410 Sprints with Middleswarth Chips on July 2;Carquest Auto Parts PA Sprint Speedweek totals $177,000 in prize money.Minersville, PA -June 6- The 2002 Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek sponsoredby Carquest Auto Parts will carry $177,000 in prize money for thepowerful 410 Sprint Cars. Big Diamond Raceway is again part of PASpeedweek, which includes eight races in nine days. Big Diamond will runthe third race of the series on Tuesday night, July 2, starting at 7:30PM. The winner of the 30-lap main will earn $4,000 and this year's pursehas been raised for cars finishing fourth through tenth from last year'spayoff.The Middleswarth Chip Company will once again provide its famouschips to the fans at Big Diamond. Dave Middleswarth and Jeff Goff arealso planning something special for the Speedweek event. Their #7Middleswarth Chip car captured last year's Big Diamond Speedweek win withveteran Keith Kauffman behind the wheel. Dave and Jeff look to doubletheir chances of repeating at Kauffman's understudy, Todd Hestor, willbring the #7m Middleswarth BBQ Chip car to Big Diamond for the first timeas he has shown he has come of age with several wins this year includingthe big Jan Opperman Memorial at Selinsgrove Speedway.
DIAMOND : Up until last season's win by Kauffman the red and white Apple AutoGroup #12 team was undefeated at Big Diamond. They look to get back ontrack with Greg Hodnett of Memphis, Tennessee, piloting the 12, comingoff a sweep of the World of Outlaw weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway inConcord, NC.The likes of Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease, Don Kreitz, Cris Eash,Billy Pauch, Doug Esh, Todd Gracey and Johnny Mackison, Jr. are expectedto challenge for the feature win as well as the Carquest Auto PartsSpeedweek point fund. The card will start at 7:30 with 410 sprint car time trials. BigDiamond's Sportsman Stocks will also be competing action under thesanction of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge.This year's PA Speedweek rotation is Lincoln Speedway, GrandviewSpeedway, Big Diamond Raceway, Silver Spring Speedway, SusquehannaSpeedway, Williams Grove Speedway, Port Royal Speedway and SelinsgroveSpeedway.

DIAMOND : Todd Burley (Spencerport, NY) was happy about the rain-out this weekas he was unable to be at Big Diamond due to commitments to a NewEngland-based DIRT Modified team. He returns this Sunday, having gottenpast his last conflict of the year and looks to make a run at Big DiamondRookie of the Year honors and track championship behind the wheel of the5 car of the defending modified championship owners, the Bashore Truckingteam of Barry and Todd Bashore.This Sunday will also likely be past Big Diamond champion KennyBrightbill's last shot at a win until later in the season. Brightbill(Sinking Spring, PA) has been a Sunday regular thus far, but currently iscommitted to a big block modified ride on Friday evenings. Some bad luckin the first two events put him in a good handicapping position to makerun at a Big Diamond win this week.
DIAMOND : In the Sportsman action, Scott Singley of Milford, NJ looked like hewas stating his case to be considered the favorite for the Big Diamondchampionship in winning the season opener. But Craig Whitmoyer (Hamburg,PA), Jesse Sterling (Lehighton, PA), Ed Scott (New Tripoli, PA), TomBrennan (Pottsville, PA), Shawn Fitzpatrick (Pottsville, PA), BillyMoyer, Jr. (Pine Grove, PA), Jeff Graby (Lebanon, PA), and Chris Clemens(Coopersburg, PA) are among others that have answered with their ownstrong cases to challenge for the title.While Singley is a New Jeresy star calling Big Diamond his hometrack, veteran driver Paul Marra, Sr, of Bordenton, NJ has been a SundayBig Diamond regular as a rookie at the track. Marra has been veryconsistent placing his 93.3 sportsman in eleventh in points. He wouldlove nothing more than a win in his pocket to reward his long trip toMinersville and carry him over until he can return to Diamond forWednesday and Sunday specials later in the season.
