I guess it just goes toshow that you don't have to be a nice person to win awards for beading! I'mtempted to hold her up as an example at our next workshop, credentials firstand then the email she sent to RockaBuy, not very flattering to say theleast.I ordered the beads in question for my son Joshua and his class to makeplant hangers. The children in the class are all mentally handicapped, oneteacher, one aide and 8 kids. I'm room mom when my schedule allows, not asoften as I would like, the special kids from RockaBuy keep me pretty busyalong with my "real paying night job".The beads we sell on ebay and justbeads fund the workshops, most of thebeads we order from you are worked by these children, it soothes them to beable to use their mind and hands together and the looks on their faces whenthey have completed a project are priceless! Hence the many different sizes,we host workshops to mentally and physically handicapped kids of all ageswith an interest in beading. We don't charge for the workshop, supplies arefree to the kids who need them. My bipolar kids are some of the bestcreators I've seen, they have a knack for beading!We chose the face beads because they are a unique bead and the size madethem perfect for macramé and fat fingers. When they arrived, many in the lotwere broken or chipped due to poor packaging and shipping. They arrived 3weeks ago, we ordered them in September and I ended up buying differentbeads for the project because they didn't arrive in time. They came fromAfrica as a handpainted glass bead, I have offered the shipping invoice tothe bidder who buys all of them, "put your money where your mouth is" so tospeak, so far no takers. They are listed as we purchased them, not acollector bead, just a nice big bead for macramé from Africa with faces.At least now I understand when she says "the kids like them".
AFRICAN BEADS : Excuse me for defending my name here...I was not aware of this threaduntil someone wrote to me regarding the above post. I've read this andanother thread here on this newsgroup, now I'm caught up -- I canassure you I was not aware of it when I wrote to the justbeads sellerabout the "African" face beads. I am kind of shocked that "Roberta"would interpret my e-mail to her as unflattering, or make theassumption I was joining into some kind of fray I didn't even knowabout, and I'm also shocked that the above poster would copy and pastesomeone else's private e-mail to a public forum, particularly since itslams me personally and quite undeservedly!btw, I didn't even know the seller's name I wrote to, didn't know ifthey were male or female, because their seller name doesn't indicatewhich, and their reply to me did not have a name at the bottom (so wasit Roberta? I really don't know...) Unfortunately I don't have a copyof my original mail because I wrote to them via justbeads asking ifthey could verify the beads were African made, as I have some similarbeads and like to collect African beads. In their reply to me, theysaid if I bid on all of them they would include the shipping invoivew/my order. I wrote back and explained that I thought they wereprobably from India and probably not handpainted, not knowing thatthey were probably receiving similar mail from others on this forum. Ican assure you that I was polite.
AFRICAN BEADS : The second reply I received was very nice and explained things to mysatisfaction. The seller also advised me not to buy them if I waslooking for collectible beads, but suggested they would be good formacrame projects. I enjoyed hearing how the kids they work with use mywebsite, but I haven't had a chance to reply since getting theirmessage yesterday. I was planning to do so during my lunch hour, but Ithink I'll wait til I calm down from being slammed like this.This is really disturbing! All I did was ask the seller a question!Why would someone threaten to slam me at a workshop like that? I canassure you (whoever is interested, anyway), that my e-mail was politeand to the point. At this point I'm satisfied that the seller*believes* they were made in Africa, an understandable mistake,considering how many beads get sent to Africa after being manufacturedelsewhere.

I'm sorry you gotcaught up in it also. I didn't know you were.The newsgroup hasn't been taken over by Google. Google archives postshere that don't have the X-No-Archive header. Dejanews used toarchive them, and when they went out of business, Google bought thearchives. You can access this newsgroup from your regular ISP withyour browser or, better, a real newsreader.
AFRICAN BEADS : (Now, as to the subject, I think Roberta should really take theopinion of people who know and stop selling them as African beads.)Mandy -- thanks for being the "person with reason" to have spoken to her. Ithink that really needed to be done.I was driving today and thinking (a dangerous thing to do, other than thinkingabout driving, LOL) and realized that the "African" trade beads were mostlymade in Venice, at least to my understanding. They are venetian. And thatlanguages translate badly, which could have produced the "hand-painted" label. Maybe they meant hand-made? I have a friend to whom I regularly send the funnystuff said about chinese jade on ebay, who continually reminds me thattranslation programs on the internet are not all that accurate. As istranslation that occurs OFF the internet also. Those beads ARE handmade.
