ANTIQUE ENGAGEMENT RINGS : This is something I haven't seen brought up yet, but my prospectivefiancee and I were discussing this last night. He sez he wouldn't want to get me atraditionalengagement ring, and I agree that it would be better, more personal andindividual-istic to go perusing(sp?) antique shops looking for something that shoutedout at us.Part of me *is* still rather traditionalistic and would still like to haveit set with a diamond. Do any of you married goths have any stories totell on this kind of situation? I don't want something that screams "institutionalism" andNormality, nor do I want to get sold short and have no one be able to recognize it as an engagement ring.-----Kuroneko,(who years ago was aka: Emeraldas)My husband and I looked in all the shops but ended up doing what we'dalways planned to do - buy it from an antique store. 'Estate jewellery'has a feeling of history and old-fashioned elegance. Victorian goesbetter with lace too. Mine is Victorian rose gold with Celon saphires anddiamonds in a london bridge setting. Not your standard 'big rock ongold'. No one has ever thought it was anything other than an engagementring, but I think that because it's not so big and flashy amourous youngmen have trouble noticing it. Not that I mind that much. ;)

ANTIQUE ENGAGEMENT RINGS : -------------------==== Posted via Deja News ====----------------------- Search, Read, Post to UsenetHm. I put a downpayment on a carved gold filigree ring with an emerald, but hten had to pay rent and never did get my lady an engagement ring. Ourwedding rings are plain white gold bands. Been too broke to get the sortof rings we really want, although we're debating getting new rings in thenot too distant future and doing a tenth-anniversary renewal of vows, thistime the wa we really want it dang it. We've been looking at a pair ofwhite gold bands with antiqued knotwork carved into the outer surface. Disturbancewho feels that the vows are more important than the jewelryWell, maybe you could look at some celtic design rings. I've seen some nice ones on the web. Also, you could get a silver ring, that probably matches the rest of your jewelry better. Or you could get a claddagh ring -- I mean, they're not specifically goth, but they are cool and have a nice story to go along with them. Plus, they double as a wedding ring. My fiance and I are going to get claddagh rings as wedding rings. Right now, I have a very simple solitaire type diamond engagement ring. I didn't pick it out, but I do love it because his mother gave it to him to give to me. For me and considering my family, that was absolutely wonderful and sweet, so I wear it even though it clashes with my silver jewelry.

Jim and I spent a huge amount of time discussing what we wantedto do in terms of our engagement and wedding rings. The first bigdecision was that I was going to get him and engagement ring as well. The next was that we would rather spend the big $$ on the weddingrings instead of buying a big ole diamond that later was not supposedto be nearly as important as the simple gold band that everyone wears. So we spent a couple days looking at what kind of rings were availablethen Jim spent days and days searching for the perfect engagementring, which I know cost way too much but I dearly love. I happen tolove old jewelry, particularly art noveau and neo-victorian stuff fromthe 20's and 30's and somehow Jim managed to find a gorgious ring fromaround 1930. It's a diamond in white gold with little cupids andhearts and flowers that only he would ever have thought to pick outfor me. And, it both captures the essense of an engagement ringwithout being just a rock on a band, His ring is white gold withceltic knotwork that forms a heart at the top (pobably meant to be awedding band) and when we marry (2 months from today, actually) wewill switch our engagement rings to our right hands to make room forthe wedding rings specially designed for us by the jeweler my bestfriend works for. These are ultra modern and sleak with white goldagain and deep blue princess sapphires.

ANTIQUE ENGAGEMENT RINGS : I guess my point is that you can really do just about anything youwant. If you want something just a little different, like a sapphireor ruby instead of a diamond, you can usually find them at independantjewelers. Or if, like me, you love antique jewelry, there are antiquedealers who might have older rings, engagement or otherwise that willcapture the idea you have in mind. There are really any number ofoptions. From: ()Subject: Re: Gothic Engagement rings Newsgroups: Date: 1997/06/11 Nepenthe wrote: Along these ^ lines, I would suggest that you take your ideas to acustom jewelry designer, or even an art student.. you could getsomething original, and possibly cheaper (especially if you go withsilver and have a student do it). I got into making jewelry because I never saw any that I liked. Check to see what I used to do, based on gothic architecture, religiousiconography, and medieval weapons design. (sorry for the shittyphotographs). *If* I were to get married, I would definitely design therings myself, if not make them. My girlfriend and I already wear thematching rings that I made. Whatever you do, good luck!

ANTIQUE ENGAGEMENT RINGS : ~Kelly "for what is art, but life captured on the canvas?" N E T . 3 D . P C . C Y B E R . G O T HThat would be great. I just got engaged too. I should be getting married sometime in the next year also. For your "gothic wedding", are you going to have your standard wedding in a cemetary, or a victorian style wedding, or medieval? I have been leaning towards medieval (although I dont' have the money for anything beyond a Burger King theme wedding, heh heh heh), but I saw Emma the other day, and a Jane Austen wedding would be lovely too, I think. So, when we start our gothic wedding thread, we should discuss stuff like:1) how are you integrating your family into your "gothic wedding"? 2) What kind of places are you considering for a reception or place for ceremony3) are you having a religious ceremony?and of course, the least useful, but most fun question4) what will you wear?
