BALI BEADS : If it's just sterling spacers you want, and the Bali vs India issue isn'timportant to you or your customers, then you might want to try this person forsterling spacers from India:I don't know him, haven't ordered from him, etc., just noticed that he used topost on the Justbeads board at ezboards and several other boards, and I neversaw any bad comments made about him and/or his beads. Not the best ofendorsements LOL, perhaps someone here has had experience ordering from him? My thinking was if you could get together with other lampwork artists for a1000 gram order then the US.38 price for sterling spacers was not too badcompared to the US.32 India price.

You'll notice that they don't sayall the beads are from Bali, they're from "on and around Bali Island"and in some of the other text, they mention Indian beads. They alsodon't give you actual prices. The part that mentions .45/gr also sayssome beads may be more. My guess is that the Indian beads are the.45/gr and the Bali are more, they do say that the Bali beads costmore at one point. I have no opinion about their profits beingdonated, since they don't give any information on that (they show a USoffice, so they're legally required to give you information if youask).
BALI BEADS : I've seen this website before, you'll notice they don't say most ofthem are Bali and in the About Us, they list many more countries wheretheir beads come from. Some are cast, some are poorly made. There'sa few that might actually come from Bali.The prices on both websites are typical of Bali-style beads made inother countries.This topic was just on my brain. I had recently inquired on TurkishLike-Bali beads and was told that .65 was too much and I can get Balibeads cheaper, but it was not specified which kind. This was on thebulkbeadbuying board, so I'm assuming it was India. Well, I'm the sameway when it comes to calling the bead by the right name, it's eitherBali or not so I have broken it down in 3 categories. True Bali Beads,Turkish Like-Bali Beads, and India Like-Bali Beads. I've have shoppedaround, and it seems that Turkish Like-Bali Beads are priced higher,then it's True Bali and last it's India Like-Bali. What makes each ofthese different?
BALI BEADS : I think with the True Bali, each and every bead is hand-crafted. TheTurkish are a combo of cast and hand made, I'm not sure about theIndia. I did get the opportunity to speak with the owner of and I was impressedwith his knowledge of the India Silver and his willingness to pleaseand make the guarantee that if you don't like it he will take it back.I believe the India beads are cast. A very nice gentleman, I do planon ordering from him soon so I can see the difference. YouandMe silver(something like that) I had seen at a show, and was able to tell thedifference in quality, (or lack there of)right away.I have been using the Turkish Beads for a year now because I like thecrisp detail and the shiny look, I guess that's what I'm paying for? Idon't know, does anyone have any more knowledge on this topic, orthoughts? Thanks!!Jen
BALI BEADS : Not all India beads are cast, maybe just the ones you looked at. Are yourunning into the "no mimimum" on this also, jennie? Because if you are goingto buy in quanties of less than $100 don't expect too much of a price break. Then get CGM's catalog. Cheapest handmade on the web, I think. Not theironline, but their catalog. If you have to meet a minimum order anyplace, talkto me. It is time for me to order some more and I don't care as long as theyare handmade and look good.I think, BTW, that it is obscene that Turkish beads are more expensive thanreal Bali. What the f for? Be careful, because Halstead, for example, sellscast Turkish beads. Clearly defined as such, and look like it. I hate them. However, some of the big "bali" dealers -- the big ones, not the Marilee ones,are having their handmade beads produced in Turkey. So there are handmadebeads coming out of there. Just look carefully.
