BEADED BRACELETS : Look through the magazine just to make sure, but almost all of them have abeginner instruction insert or page.OK on crochet with beads to make beaded bracelet like in interweavebeadwork magazine. The bead will want to slip under the last bead row. You need to push the bead up between the work and the working thread - itwill kinda pop in and stay in place when you do it right. It is hard toexplain unless you tried over and over and over and then went back andre-read instructions (can't remember where I read that particular tip) andgo - OHHHHHHHH - DUH so that is what I'm doing wrong.OR get someone to show you - or get Carol Perenouds video on crochetingwith beads from Victorian Videos.Or wait for me to find room in a future issue of BeadAholic or put out abeginner Crochet Beading booklet ;)
BEADED BRACELETS : I had the hardest time with this, but it was because I was using beads ina crocheted angel, and the area with the beads wasn't solid. The beadskept slipping back to the wrong side. I must have played with thefinished items for hours trying to get the beads to stay on top. No go.As I was making the second one, a little light bulb finally fizzled to life. When I get to the openwork area with beads, I turn the pattern inside outso I'm working on the "wrong" side. Then the beads stay easily in placeon the "wrong" side, which happens to be the right side! You don't need to do this with solid areas as the stitch will be held tothe right side by the other stitches, but if you want to do more lacyeffects you need to work the pattern "inside out." BEADED BRACELETS : Recently I saw an ad for home assemblers to make western beaded bracelets for acompany out of Florida.... deposit required is $96.95. I was wondering ifanyone in this newsgroup had ever heard of this company or others like it (EpicHome Crafts) where home crafters can assemble their products at home and sentthem back to the company for payment. This particular company is paying $30.00for every 24 bracelets assembled. I'm curious as to how difficult or whatkinds of problems others of you may have encountered. Please respond to me email if you have any information for me, I may never find this newsgroupagain!!From: ()Subject: Re: Home Assembly of Beaded Bracelets Newsgroups: Date: 1998/12/01 Sounds like fraud.---------------------------------------- ---------------------Lefthanded needleworker, beadweaver, and chessplayer Bronx chess news here------------------------------------ -----------------------Do not... I repeat Do not fall into this trap. Anyone that asks you for moneyupfront is a scam IMHO. I have a friend that fell into this making dolls.....she spent a bit of change to get started and come to find out none of her workwas acceptable. She ended up spending a bundle before she blew the whole thingoff... it galls me that these types of scams persist. BEADED BRACELETS : Boy do I feel stupid now... *LOL*. Just wish that I saw this threadbefore going into all of that. But as I said before it introduced me tothe joys of beading so I'm happy with what I learnt, the painful way. Afriend of mine was actually asking me for the info I'd accumulated abouthome assembly, hoping for some extra income herself. I never did getaround to giving it to her, and now I'm glad. It's good to hear from other people regarding stuff like this, thankseveryone.Dateline NBC recently did a story on this very subject. The woman theyprofiled had hoped that this would be a good way for her to make somemoney to support her family. But none of the jewelry she made was"acceptable". So Dateline hired a professional beadworker and designerto sign up. She found the instructions to be almost impossible tofollow, and none of her items were acceptable either. You are correct. If they ask you for money, pass it by. BEADED BRACELETS : I've done something like this before. Mine involved making simple brickstitch earrings for what seemed like a great price ($6 - $7 per pair ifcompleted in units of 25 or 50 pairs). However it didn't really workfor me. I've never actually got paid for the work and money I invested.Although this was how I started beading so it wasn't a total loss!I actually paid 90 bucks for a listing of companies requiring homeassemblers, then deposits for each company ranging from 5 dollars to 50dollars or so... there were others requiring more money but I stayedaway from those. In total I think I tried 5 or 6 different companies.NONE of them worked out the way I expected, but I just want to point outthat I never dealt with the company you mentioned (Epic Home Crafts fromFL). So this is just my experience...
