BRACELETS IDENTIFICATION : Of course this doesn't help at all if the child in question is one inclinedto wander off alone and get lost. The Medic bracelet would even behelpful at some of these large indoor playlands we have here in theStates. Not that another child would be inclined to read the bracelet, but the first adult to find Oliver would be able to read it. Some of theseplaygrounds are so large that I've found it easy to lose track of Oliverfor a few minutes at a time. That's why I refuse to take him to themanymore. Too stressfull.I wish he'd wear a bracelet of this kind! I've seen him do harm tohimself trying to get hospital identification tags off in the past, and therewould need to be an intensive effort made to help him tolerate thingsbeing around his wrists or ankles. I also think I'd list autism on thebracelet. If not that, I'd list "speech delay" or something, at least toindicate that my child will not respond to questions as other childrenwould. Take Care --

BRACELETS IDENTIFICATION : That is an excellent question about what you would put on the MedicAlert Bracelets. My four year old son wears a Medic Alert bracelet. It saysAutistic/Non-verbal on it.Hi. Well I'd use the 24 hour number... and you might want to considerthe necklace. I hated the bracelet... I had to wear mine forpenicillin, etc and it was so irritating I wouldn't wear it anymore...I liked the necklace though and wore it until it got lost when I wentout swimming... ------Suzy (03/67) HFA/AS. My home page(TAOEA): or (page underconstruction at the moment but the main, disabilities/health, autism, adhd, fun & Education pages are complete and viewable)April I have one for my son. I had it engraved to say his name, address, phone # and at the bottom it says "i'm autistic.".

BRACELETS IDENTIFICATION : I checked into these bracelets just last week. They would not work for ourson, as twirling is a big stim for him and he would have the bracelet offin no time to twirl. So I went to our local trophy engraving place andasked them there for any ideas that they might have. They were just ontheir way to medals market and said they would look around at market foranything that might be an "alert" that could possibly fit on his shoelaceor attach key-chain style to his belt or something of that sort. They willbe back Monday the 17th. Do you want to know what they find out at thatpoint? I can re-post or e-privately at that time if you wish. From: ()Subject: Re: Medic Alert Bracelets/autism Newsgroups: Date: 1997/02/15 Dear April,Hey there! I know quite a few people who have their children where medicalert tags either in bracelet form, necklaces as Sue mentioned or attachedto the shoe laces. In your daughter's case as in my son's I recommend the bracelet. Isaacwould not keep it around his neck and he takes off his shoes at everyopportunity which would defeat the purpose of a medic alert. I take it in C's case it's more for protection should she get lost or hurtaway from you. I have intended to get one for a while. Now, I can sinceIsaac is not on changing meds, etc. And he would tolerate it better. For achild who might mind have them practive wearing a bracelet for everincreasing amounts of time and reward with whatever she or he would enjoy. Ipersonally would have "autism" or "nonverbal" or something immediatelyfocused on the need for special assistance since people are going to need anexplanation for the lack of communication when the child is found.Jennie "Isaac's mom"

BRACELETS IDENTIFICATION : Me again...I was wondering where you can get diabetes identification bracelets made, andwhat the price range is? Is it cheaper if they're ordered online? Can anyonegive me the names of any good companys I can look in to?Viohazard said in this very newsgroup...The main one is MedicAlert. However you might want to consider having your own design of jewellery engraved for yourself. Medicalert is also international. My hospital here in Britain sells and endorses them.I'm not sure engraving your own design of jewelry is good idea.Medics are trained to look for specific designs that indicate a Medical Alertbracelet, necklace or whatever. They won't check the back of every piece ofjewelry you're wearing in an emergency.Just thought of something. My husband has one for bee stings as he is veryallergic to them but the red on the medic necklace wore off. Is there aspecial paint that we could use or just buy another one. Wears off ratherquicklyThanksDi"Jennifer" ; wrote in message...

BRACELETS IDENTIFICATION : don't worry about the red paint, Diana... the new ones don't even have redpaint on themRed nail polish with clear polish over it works."Diana" wrote in message...I just saw some pictures of fancy ones in a magazine. They were designedfor a teen who didn't want to wear one. The little diabetes alert designwas the same as I've seen elsewhere, but instead of a plain chain, they hadbeaded bands in various designs. I failed to take note of the name of thecompany that sells them. But they would probably be easy enough to make bytaking apart a cheap one and designing a band to your liking. Beadwork likethat isn't hard to do.I've seen them too... she's a T1 who wanted something cool to wear. It's something like "Laura's Gift"... I know she's got a website.
