CANE GLASS BEADS : When you can afford it, order sterling silver wire from Fire Mountain or Rio Grande... it's pretty cheap, wire work is clearly one of your strengths, and using sterling will increase your sales.I bet that, with some modifications, you can at least make enough from sales to pay for your hobby. You know, the chintzy little roadside bazaars where you can get "woven" potholders like the ones you made at age 6, and plastic signs with sappy verses on them, and plastic lamps with blue geese painted on the shades, and plastic jewelry for $5 or less per piece (half of it made from kits sold at Michael's), and sometimes pictures of Elvis painted on black velvet. Hummmmm, I'll rethink the price then from your suggestion! TY! I figuredthat if they are lower priced, they will sell, then I will have more moneyto spend on poly clay, and be able to get better at my work, charge higherprices, have more money to spend on poly clay, get better at the work, andactually start making money off of it. (Gosh I hope that makes sense tosomeone besides me lol) The two Christmas pens were made from clay from acane gone wrong, (I like the way that the pens turned out better than thehorrid little beads did, and the beads are being used for "sandingpractice") hence making Christmas pens in the middle of May. The two withwhite or translucent and green on them were "let's see what happens when Ido this...." type of pens, and the flower pen was a really good cane that Ijust made too much of and needed to do something with the leftover. I havesome "neon" pens on the drawing board. One of the pens is drasticallycheaper than the rest because the translucent clay discolored around thebase of the pen only, and that is the particular pen that I'm trying to talkmyself out of keeping for myself. Even with the little discolored spot, itsstill pretty, and by far my favorite.

That is another "let's seewhat happens...." idea...worst possible case scenario is that I'll get anodd little conversation starter pen out of the deal.As far as the plastic goes...lol, I have an "excuse" for it. Its cheap andI needed a bead fix. I'm slowly working my way into the glass and crystalset, and of course, will charge more for the ones that have the glass and/orcrystal in them. I understand that plastic is "cheap" and thusly price mystuff to fit it. The other night when I was messing with my beads fromshipwreck.com, I made a gorgeous all glass bracelet and earrings (theearrings were wrapped with copper, I just love the way that stuff looks, butwant silver....working on talking hubby into letting me get some silverwire), Pictures coming soon, and will probably start that set off at around$10.
CANE GLASS BEADS : I have enough plastic beads to keep me in business for a while (at least formy bead fixes anyway) and as I start to deplete my stock of that it willgradually get replaced with glass/crystal beads, and sell at higher prices.I won an auction the other day of a medium number of glass beads...reallysparkly...lots of fun! I'm taking the same approach with the plastic -vs-glass argument that I'm taking with the pens....sell some, restock, getbetter, sell at higher price, restock with better quality, etc....I figurethat we all have to walk before we run, and on a military income, I didn'thave the funds to start off at the high end. I used plastic on the winecharms because I didn't want them to be too heavy on the glass, but I dohave a poly clay/glass set in the works.

A book I'm reading now on Bead Embroidery by British artists ValerieCampbell-Harding and Pamela Watts describes rocaille a s a "trade name" forsmall glass beads. There are divisions under that term of round rocailles(smooth outside and inside); Tosca or square rocailles (smooth outside,square-cut (?) inside to catch the light; and Charlottes (ridged, facetedoutside with metal lining inside).I'm not sure how you achieve a square cut hole since I think these beads aremanufactured from drawn cane with a air bubble forced and drawn with the glassto make the hole. maybe you let the cane cool in a square mold. A glass artistwould know more about that...
