CARVED WOODEN BEADS : Many of the catalogs, like Rio Grande and Fire Mountain Gems, carrythe knotter tool and tweezers. Some of them carry books and videoson the subject of knotting as well.I learned to knot a couple years ago and have been using it in almostall of my necklaces. It gives a lovely drape. I use silk cord, usuallythe kind that comes with a needle already attached. Rio Grande carriesthe silk and nylon this way. CARVED WOODEN BEADS : For the above, I'd highly suggest Softflex! For something that was basicallystringing the larger liquid silver and small metal balls the Nymo size D shouldwork. For more passes through the beads Nymo size B would work. For anythingwith most any weight or rough holes or kind of sharp edges, stick with theSoftflex.My stringing books are at my other place so others will have to give info therebut seems like the title of one I like, for stringing is "The Basics of BeadStringing" by Genevieve Bourget and another is "The Best Little Beading Book"by Wendy Conner.I second this - with this set of matls, unless you are looking to do net-typepatterns, stick with Softflex! CARVED WOODEN BEADS : I'm going to the UK in May, 1995 and was thinking of taking a quick trip toParis and then going on to Lourdes. Is there a train that would take medirectly from Paris to Lourdes? I've never been to France so any help ofany kind would be appreciated.There are several direct train links between Paris and Lourdes as it is a quite popular tourist attraction. CARVED WOODEN BEADS : Lourdes is an easy daytrip by train from Toulouse or Biarritz/Bayonne,or a convenient place to stop for a few hours if you're travellingbetween these two areas. The visitor centre and the baths for sickpeople shut for two hours at lunchtime, but the churches stay open withmasses at various times and in various languages throughout the day.The locals obviously earn a living out of the pilgrims, but prices ofrestaurants and hotels are not inflated. Indeed at 70 centimes for apostcard, rather than 2F elsewhere, things might even be a bit cheaper.Doesanyone have any information on Loudes, when's the best time to go, whatsthe best way to get there from US, fly into Paris and then fly to Loudes? Isa rental car good to have? and travel the countryside? I' really have noidea about it so any help will be appreciated. Either post here or email meat
CARVED WOODEN BEADS : There are direct trains from Paris Montparnasse to Lourdes, about 5?hrs.Shouldn't that be Paris AUSTERLITZ? That's where I got a train from.Five and a half hors sounds optimistic. I travelled overnight.There is an airport serving Lourdes. It may well have some directflights from the USA for organised pilgrimages. Your local RC priestcould probably advise on that. The airport ceratinly has domesticflights from other parts of France. You may find it easier withscheduled flights to come to an airport in southern France, or maybeeven northern Spain, than via Paris.Nope. The overnight train runs from Austerlitz and takes more than 8.5hours, the daytime trains are TGV's from Montparnasse and do it in 5.5 -5.75 hours.Deytime high-speed TGV's from Paris Montparnasse, slower night trainsfrom Paris Austerlitz
