CHARMS FOR CHARM BRACELETS : I remember charm bracelets!! I had one my grandmother made -- knittedusing silver stretchy thread/yarn (elastic maybe!). And the charmswould tie on. My mom inherited it from me :) as I never liked thepincheness of it.As for age-worthy, I think it's strongly child by child. My 9yo nieceis definately great with jewelry and has been for a couple of yearsnow. My 8yo niece is not, and I don't think she will be for anothercouple of years. Also, 8yo is adhd and 9yo is not, so that probablyfactors in. Plus 9yo's mom is very fashion oriented. I got my sterling silver one when I was 9 or 10, and my grandmother and parentswould buy me charms for birthdays or Christmas. I never lost it, but I wasn't allowedto wear it around all the time, either - I could only wear it to church or parties, orsome other special occasion.
CHARMS FOR CHARM BRACELETS : I have two charm necklaces, with charms from most places I've visited, as well asreligious charms and "superstitious" charms like figas. I will not get on anairplane without them -- hey, they keep the plane in the air. Now I have a thirdcharm necklace that belonged to Anne/MJM. It is very special, and will go onflights with me, too.My mom got me one in jr. high, and gave me charms for it for subsequentoccasions through mid-college. I love to take it out and look at it, butI rarely wear it because some of the charms snag on just abouteverything. I lost one that way, so I am careful with it now to thepoint of hardly putting it on.I love my charm bracelet too, and this thread reminds me that I should wear itmore often. My godparents gave it to me at my Confirmation when I was ten. For many years my mother gave me charms to add to it. Hmmm... I'll have to askher why she stopped doing that. Maybe because I don't wear it much anymore? You know, I just now this second remembered WHY I don't wear it much. There isone charm on it that catches everything I wear and has made holes in a lot ofmy clothes. I could never get it off because it's welded on and I was too lazyto take it to the jeweler. I bet if I had that one aggravating charm takenoff, I would wear that bracelet. Anyway, I reckon it's got about 30 or socharms on it. It really needs more now that I'm grown up and can add thingsconcerning my life with my kids and husband. I'd love to have things connectedto THEM on it. -- Beckie
CHARMS FOR CHARM BRACELETS : I have 3 charm bracelets. One is a vintage (from the 1950s)sterlingchild's bracelet that my sister gave me--it was hers in the 50s, andwhen she heard I love charm bracelets, she gave it to me! It's verycute with lots of little-kid-type charms (a ballerina, an old-fashionedphone, a globe, two old-fashioned tephones, a treasure chest, cowboyboots, etc.).Another is a tiney gold-toned child's bracelet wiht just 5 charms onit--mailed to me by either my great-aunt or my grandmother (can'tremember anymore) when I was about 6 or 7.My third bracelet is made of gorgeous, chunky loops, like no pther I'veever seen. My mom bought it for me about 10 or 15 years ago and it isfull of charms that Mom and other family members have bought for me--acouple of peace symbols, a dog, a dolphin, a stethoscope, a couple ofcats, a heart locket, etc.I love my charm bracelets, but I have so much other jewelry that I love,too, so I hardly ever remember to wear them.
CHARMS FOR CHARM BRACELETS : One of my aunts (and godmother) started one for me - I can't even remember when itwas just a bracelet ... by the time I was 6, it was almost as full as it is now.I was the only child in the family for a while, and this Aunt travelled a lot, so Ihave charms from all over the place, places I've never been to ... and it'sfascinating. I have added a few charms in recent years from my travels.I started a gold charm bracelet in my late teens, which I wear all the time. Idon't have many charms on it, and it is quite difficult to find ones which aresmall enough to put on it. I was pretty disappointed when I went to New Orleansthat I couldn't find any dainty enough.I now have a God-daughter, and my christening present to her was a charm bracelet -I think I've only added a cable car charm so far ... hm, that reminds me, I'dbetter get working on that bracelet for her! :)
