I know as a parent you want to throw yourself in front of the train to protect your child, but a bracelet can't hurt. It could save your son's life, and perhaps teach a different level of compassion to his friends. Best of luck to you! My son was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. He's been on Depakote for three months and the seizures seem to be completely under control.
CHILD ID BRACELETS : Do you think it's necessary to get him a medical ID bracelet? I want to avoid things that will label him as "different" in his own eyes and in his classmates' eyes, so I don't want to get the bracelet unless it's necessary. On the other hand, if the bracelet could save his life someday, of course I want to get one! Does anybody out there have experience with this? Should I or shouldn't I?I'm pretty sure you can get an anklet as well, which would still show up insome situations (e.g. changing for gym class), but wouldn't be a constantattraction for teasing.I also don't think it would be bad for your son to understand that he'sdifferent. Is three months really long enough to be sure that he'll never haveanother seizure?

(Shewasn't diagnosed until relatively recently.) There was a girl that I went to schoolwith who had severe asthma and she wore one. Another kid was a diabeticand also wore one. You never know when that braclet could prevent yourchild from receiving dangerous attention or medication due to lack ofinformation.

I had to wear one all thru grade school. Couldnever take the damn thing off! I still have it in my box of memorabilia! I remember the clasp because it was next to impossible for me to undomyself (guess that appealed to my mother!), so I was truly STUCK wearingit forever! I suppose now those wouldn't go over so well, whatwith the media telling all parents not to put your child's name onanything (in case of kidnapping, you know).

Sadly, I remember both fads.......Yep, that's the ones. Actually, after I posted about these things, Irealized that they were around in the 50s, so they must not be a productof the 70s after all. But I do remember several guys that wore them then.Yeah, I remember those! I remember asking my mother to get me one. She refused, and in about a month the fad passed and I forgot about it. Here's another one: Anyone remember the game "Feely Meely?" You had a bunch of obects in a box, and you had to draw a card that would show you an object, and the players had to feel around in the box for the object.
