CRYSTAL NECKLACES : About every 2 months there is a huge antique fair at Newark where there average 4,000 stalls. Some of them are outdoors so really need a dry day for them.Wouldn't it be lovely for a huge RCB get together to go to that fair.I have not been for some time because it is tiring for me. An early start is needed. Not only that it costs or did 5 GBP to get in. That is a big chunk of my spending money.Still we can dream.Shirleyaverage 4,000 stalls. CRYSTAL NECKLACES : This is my first posting to this group, although I have been lurking for abit.I deal in vintage costume jewelry. I just picked up three crystal necklacesat a flea market. I suspect that one of them might be rock crystal(quartz?) instead of leaded glass. I suspect this because it is noticiblycolder to the touch than the other necklaces. Am I on the wrong track, oris this an indication of composition?Also, I just sold a necklace on ebay which I thought was orange crystal.The buyer, who is a jewelry dealer of some sort, emailed me to thank me, andtold me the necklace was actually real cut citrine. Also, I sometimes getsterling jewelry set with stones that I suspect to be semi-precious.Short of a class at the gemnology isntitute (which I have been considering,btw), is there any simple way to tell semi precious stones from glass?

Place your item underan ultraviolet light (black light), preferably short wave. Almost all glasswill fluoresce blue, green, or yellow, while quartz generally does notfluoresce.
