DANGLING EARRINGS : You really can see EVERYTHING at the NYC boatshow in less than two hours, unless you want to stand in line to see the gaudiest of the powerboats. Mostof the vendor booths are gone (used to be three floors of vendors booths. Nowthere are maybe less than a hundred booths, many selling "window cleaners",cheap sunglasses, cheap jewelry, and "cobalt" drill bits). Once upon a time, the aisles were so crowded it was difficult to move. Now -- by about seven atnight if you stay that late hoping against hope to see something interesting --you nearly have the place to yourself (except of course if you are stillstanding in line to see a $350,000 boat with a Sears refrigerator in it.)The NYC boatshow used to be a whole day's entertainment, from opening toclosing, still with things to see. Now, it's down to maybe two hoursentertainment, plus standing in line time.
DANGLING EARRINGS : Both ears pierced for the last 2+ years. Absolutely NO adverse comments from clients or family at any time, even the more conservative suit and tie bankers I have to meet with once in a while, or my father who is homophobic. Then again, I have kind of a reputation for being 'different', so they all just took it in stride along with my hair that goes past my bra line in the back. As a matter of fact, I'm almost constantly surprised that people don't add up the earrings, long hair and shaved legs and suspect something. Maybe they do, but nobody has ever approached me about it. When in drab, 90% of the time I wear the small (13mm diameter) silver hinged rings that my wife gave me for my birthday. I like these because I never feel them while sleeping or showering, and they don't snag in my hair or clothes. DANGLING EARRINGS : The rest of the time in drab, I'm either wearing CZ studs (miniscule, medium or large) but don't like the way they catch in my hair, or larger silver rings (17mm diameter) with a few beeds threaded on them. These look really cool when combined with a black bandana and wrap-around dark shades. :) I have some dangling earrings that are pretty conservative and short, and am thinking of adding them to my male wardrobe to see what the reaction is. When enfemme, I usually wear longer, dangling earrings. I love the feel as they swing from side to side. I have enough pairs now to be able to match the colors and style of most of my outfits. I can't resist picking up a pair as an impulse purchase once in a while. The only thing I DON'T like is larger hoops. They don't feel good, and they snag and catch on too many things. Plus, with the shape of my face, they just don't look nice on me. DANGLING EARRINGS : I've had SOMETHING in my ears 24/7 since the day they were pierced. At first, I was worried about the holes closing back up, so kept them filled. Now, it is just so much of a habbit I wouldn't consider NOT wearing anything. About 20 days after the piercing, I lost my patience and took out one of the studs to try something else. The piercings had not healed anywhere near enough yet, and it took me almost an hour of poking and prodding to get it back in :( :( :( The pain was incredible, and at times I thought I was almost making new holes as I tried to thread the studs through the raw openning. I learned my lesson, and waited a few months before trying THAT again! Once things were healed, It took me a few weeks before it became really easy to change them, but now I just slip things in and out and don't even have to be looking in a mirror. DANGLING EARRINGS : In reverse order, I don't think the intent is to discriminate againstthose that don't fit the norm. I do think that sometimes is the unintentional result, but never the intent. The difference in the color of shirt for Aaronic Priesthood (when,I assume, passing the sacrament) is a matter of personal taste andvaries from location to location. In the most extreme and left without policy or sense, one could imagine deacons dressed in sloppy jeans, torn tennies, "Bud Light" t-shirts and greasy fingernails slouched in front of the sacrament table waiting for the prayer to be said. The problem here is one of showing respect for the sacred nature ofthe ceremony. To avoid that disrespect, local leaders devise policies of appropriatedress. I've been in wards where the policy was clean pants, shirtsthat have collars (and are tucked in), and it worked fine. I've beenin others where the policy was dress shirts, jackets, and ties.Personally, I think anyone that requires a 12-year old boy to weara tie in order to serve others is treading loudly down the roadto child abuse. Just kidding. Maybe.
