Both are totally wonderful hobbies, but if you think stamping isexpensive, just WAIT until you get into making beads! Of all thecrafts I've done, metalsmithing and the glass crafts are probably mostexpensive.On the subject of beaded tag hangers, I make tags, and do prettyheavily beaded hangers. For a garden-themed tag, I made some strandswith "branch" fringe and a variation of it that I call "leaf" fringe(just looping the branches). I used some glass flower beads, a fewglass leaf beads, and a brass dragonfly charm. I had only about 5different strands, but on some I do as many as 15 or 20 differentbeaded strands. Anyway, the gardening one turned out really pretty.Someone wanted to buy it from me, but I didn't want to sell it. :)

GLASS FLOWER BEADS : There is a beautiful treasure necklace with glass flower beads in the new Jewelry Crafts magazine. Does anyone know where to get glass flower and leaf beads, as well as upholstery thread?Also, I would love to get into one of the bead swaps on AOL's Jewelry Board, but am unable to consistently get onto AOL. Is there any other way to access this?Lastly, does anyone know anything about making delicate macrame jewelry with tiny beads and silver-set gemstones? I saw some beautiful work in a shop up in Woodstock, NY. (I'm not referring to that hippie-ish hemp jewelry I keep seeing advertised).I have many colors, sizes and styles of both flower andleaf glass beads. They seem quite common. OrnamentalResources is a good source.I cant help with the beads question, but I know you can get upholstery thread at any sewing/fabric shop or anyplace that has a large selection of thread. It will state on the label end what kind of thread it is. I use upholstery thread to sew buttons on my grandkids clothes, and to sew eyes on dolls/stuffed toys. I've seen it in black, white, and tan, but it may come in other colors.
GLASS FLOWER BEADS : I have a small collection of antique glass beaded light bulb covers,several of which require restoration. I need help finding flower-shapedmolded glass beads to replace those that are missing or broken.The beads I am looking for are approximately 15mm (aprox. 9/16") indiameter, 3-D flower shaped beads that have 5 petals with impressed detailon the dished or front side. They are made of translucent frosted(whiteish) clear glass. A front view shows the center hole and five petalspressed into the glass. The edge of the bead also has five indentationsforming the lobes of the petals. A side view shows the top of the petalsare slightly domed. The beads are approximately 3/32" to 1/8" thick. I could use ANY COLOR translucent or frosted as long as it transmits light.
