I also teach classes in fusing to local bead and stained glassstores. I've just written an article on glass fusing and seed beads forJewelry Crafts and am currently writing a how-to article on fusing for thejewelry journal section of Lapidary Journal.Right now I'm into etching patterns onto dichroic glass prior to fusing it. Ieither make my own stencil from clear contact paper or use one of thecommercially available stencils. I use Armour etching cream to etch off thedichroic coating. I've made some interesting pieces - man in the moon, sun,hearts, stars, diamonds, spirals, feathers etc.
GLASS SEED BEADS : Great, I hope I can get those when they come out (not easy to get herein England - but now we have a Borders store which seems to stock them).Funny, I just bought some glass seed beads to try fusing them - Ithought they might make an interesting sheet which I could then cut andmake into fused beads. ___ {'-'} The Crafty Owl -"-"-You need to know the COE (coefficient of expansion) of the glass used to makethe seed beads or do a lot of expirementing. I've tried fusing with seed beadsbefore with mixed results. Some of the glass was compatible with Moretti (COE= 104), other colors were not. I tried 3 different colors on a base ofMoretti, 1 of the colors started cracking at the edges of the seed beads assoon as I took it out of the kiln. The ones that cracked were white with redstripes, they looked like little peppermint candies after being fused - too badthey were incompatible with the Moretti but I guess I should try them with myBullseye and Uroboros (COE = 90). I fused the seed beads onto the surface,not between layers. Also, any exotic coatings on the seed beads (AB, irisetc.) will not survive the fusing process. Perhaps if you're using seed beadsall from the same company the glass might all be the same COE? You could usethe seed beads like frit and try some pate de verre pieces with it????
