HIP HOP JEWELRY : You know that silver jewelry stand at Knott's? It's located just across fromlittle stage where the indians dance. Anyway, we're walking by it today andone of the ladies who works there was holding up these very gaudy silver and(fake) diamond necklaces. Big heavy chains with "#1" and "Raiders"medallions hanging from them. She said "We got your bling bling righthere!". So we stopped to look around and I jokingly told my friend heshould get one of them. He said "no, I'll just wear my clock around my neckinstead". I told the lady we weren't interested in the gangasta jewelry, but she insisted that it was 'hip-hop jewelry', to which I said "samething". She said "You guys probably listen to Blink 182 anyway, or LimpBizkit" (she couldn't be more wrong).

HIP HOP JEWELRY : Jazzy Smurf Steve Jackson says:>?X-Clan, spec. Professor X the Overseer>> Agreed. It's not like Judaism or Islam. However, I've always assertedthat Hip Hop takes on "almost religious overtones" in the zeal in whichit's followed, engaged in, and defended/attacked. I think that would bea fair assessment of the culture. And since I'm an agnostic and don'tlook for divine intervention in my life, my parents and grandmothernotwithstanding, I've learned more from this man made artform than fromthose man made disciplines. ???????????????????????????????????????? ????> Agreed, what I'm hearing from you is balance. I don't think anyonewould dispute having that. With the Roots assertion, conversely, I'veheard that the Roots were looked upon unfavorably in some circles forworking with him. I disagree with that, they're making music and it'sthey're right--more power to both parties. So I don't know where youwere going with that point. My thing is that the way Hip Hop iscurrently projected, you'd think that all it's really about isglorifying gangsterism, chickenheads, and jewelry. The Hip Hop I wasraised on had these elements, but not to the degree we're seeing today. It's almost as if obtaining knowledge and being in harmony with yourbrother/sister while having fun is like kryptonite. That's my thing. PEACE!

HIP HOP JEWELRY : Rakim as _President_ and GZA as _Vice President_....the campaign sloganwould be..."Follow The Leader If You Want To Be Paid In Full".The mic is my weapon, no need to conceal/ when I pick up the steel/ Ibreak bones like if Shaquille/ was up in Cali' fuckin' Ally McBealWell, I know Strategy's going to nominate the LA Dream Team. :-)If he hadn't made that wack solo album he'd have half a chance..If money was the only issue, any of the following people could run:Russell Simmons, Sean 'Puff' Combs, Tony Draper, Brad 'Scarface' Jordan, hell even Robert Van Winkle (lesson for all wack rappers: if you onlyhave one hit record in your life, SAVE THE MONEY and INVEST IN STOCK).Jesse Ventura proved you can win with a "new media" campaign on a shoestring budget, so anything is possible.

HIP HOP JEWELRY : Chuck D is the obvious choice. He's eloquent, passionate, and wouldn'ttake no shit from nobody - plus he could unify both coasts by gettingthem to do a website together. Afrika Bambaata should be the VP.He could probably run for president too but sadly he doesn't havethe kind of name recognition these days you would need to achievea popular mandate. Speaking of popularity, DMX could probably winon the strength; with Ja Rule as his VP. Their party, naturally, would be Loud Barking Dogs. KRS-One and Wise Intelligent would runon the Socialist ticket but like most Socialist candidates they wouldquickly get squashed. Kool Keith and Ol Dirty could run as pres andVP from the Nutty Stinking Kettle of Fish Looney Bin Monster RavingBehemoth Insanity Party. Their popularity could jeapordize Chuck'schances of winning and throw a split vote victory to the Slim Shadyticket, with Royce the Five-Nine as his VP, naturally.

HIP HOP JEWELRY : Kool Herc, since the man has't received the credit or any money for theculture he created.Flash for VPAfrika Bambataa for Sec. GenMelle Mel for Speaker of the HouseRUN-D.M.C. for as Presidential advisorsProfessor Griff for Minister of DefenseDammit... I was going to post something on a similar topic... like a rebirth ofthat thread I did so long ago...Who would lead us? That's a difficult thought, b/c it's hard to squeeze allthe ideals of Hip-Hop into one man or woman. Personally, if I think Hip-Hopwere to rule this country (pipe dream, but still), I can't see one single head. It'd be more socialist, I don't know why but I see it moving that way. But, should the Old Regime's ways still go, and capitalism still grow, I thinkCommon wouldn't be a bad choice. He's not overbearing, but not too subtle, either. He's someone I could vote for.
