JEWELRY BOXES : Does anyone know of a supplier for "hard" plastic jewelry boxes? These arenot the "pliable" cardboard boxes with a clear soft plastic lid thattypically come filled with cotton, but rather "hard" plastic boxes with aclear hinged lid and a cardboard insert adpatable for either one pair ofearrings or a necklace. US Box Corp (Newark, NJ) calls them "Vu-Top RigidHinged Plastic Boxes." However, I am looking for an alternate supplier. You could try Rio. I know I saw something like you describe for rings intheir catalog.-- Nancy From: ()Subject: Re: "Hard" plastic jewelry boxes Newsgroups: Date: 1998/01/01 Dann Howell wrote:Tripps has someting they call Plastic "Crystal" Boxes. These range from75 to 95 cents each for 1 to 11 quantity with bigger price breaks themore you get. Contact number is 1-800-545-7962. Hours 8 to 5 MST.

JEWELRY BOXES : This is a little different than what you asked for but you mightbe interested anyway. We were recently commissioned with a wholesale orderfor up-scale jewelry boxes for high end pieces. These boxes are made outof nice hardwoods (walnut, cherry, myrtlewood, oak, etc.) and have aspring return, hinged lid sliced off at an angle to enhance display of thepieces. When raised the lid folds back at a 90 degree to the bottom foreasy access and display, when closed it seals shut with a snap. Insidehole diameter is 1 3/4" round with a cardboard type insert. Wholesaleprice for these boxes is $9 each. If you think you might be interested Ican make you a sample up soon. E-mail me at the above address. - JimI have a list of display and packaging sources. E-mail me for a copy.Suzanne Hye

JEWELRY BOXES : I would like to line my jewelry boxes with fabric but cannot findanything suitable. I have tried velveteen but it is too thick andonly comes in very dark colours. I'm not keen on using a flocker as Iam not sure how durable those fibers are. (Perhaps someone could giveme an idea of how many years flocking stands up to use.) Felt is alsotoo thick and really not appropriate. Any suggestions and sourceswould be appreciated.Jane, I have used a material called "suedecloth" that is fairly thin, andavailable in quite a number of colors at my local Northwest Fabrics.I noticed on your website that you spelled "colour" in theBritish/Canadian/Australian fashion in describing one of your lovely boxes, but I'm sure whatever local fabric store you have in your area can supplyyou with suedecloth.

JEWELRY BOXES : I like silk; especially the moire weaves found in antique books as coverpages and box liners. If you need a bit of loft, almost any other fabric canbe used as a loose backing. If you need a flat, tailored lining, suedes andsplits are very easy to work (you may need to skive edges and mitercorners). Paste -- the old boiled flour & water paste you make in yourkitchen -- is the standard for leathers, by the way. Most commonly available synthetic felts are useless for fine work. Real feltcan be found, but is expensive and likely too thick for what you have inmind. Modern velvets, the pale mints, roses, beiges, greys, and so on, areoften used in jewelry display cases, but I'm not sure where to find yardage.Other choices might be the thicker, softer handmade papers (neutral pH willlast a long, long time), and my favorites; kid vellum and Niger goat usedfor bookbinding and casemaking (you'll find suppliers online, I believe). Iloathe flocking.

JEWELRY BOXES : I need some help in finding a supplier for the velvet, satin and fakesuede inserts used in stamped metal jewelry presentation boxes. Imanufacture custom presentation cases from exotic hardwoods. I had beenusing a supply of inserts from a metal box maker that used tomanufacture in L.A. that I bought at an estate auction but have run out. Most of the stamped metal presentation case manufacturers don't want tosell just the inserts to me and the ones that do have often putridiculously high minimums of each type ( ie. ring, earring, pendant,etc.). After I get up and running I can probably afford to purchase inbulk but right now I just need to be able to buy several hundred of eachtype. If I can't find a source for the die cut inserts a source for just thefelt, velvet and satin covered paperboards would suffice and I can cut myown.
