JEWELRY RUBY RING : -Stanley BrightOwnerA&M JewelersAntique & Modern JewelryBaltimore, Maryland First off, he didnt call it crap, he was *asking* if it was. Second, if hebought a well made piece of jewelry containing a lab created stone how do youfigure that was money wasted? There is a place in the jewelry industry for lab created stones. They canoffer a customer a lower price point item without you having to lower thequality of the piece to supply it. Everyone cant afford a $4000.00 emerald. Some that can afford one, dont see any reason to spend that much on a ringtheir 21 year old daughter is going to wear to dig ditches. I had an old boss that had that same prima donna attitude towards hiscustomers that you seem to. He refused to carry lower priced items, NOT lowerquality, lower price. He thought he should be able to just sell high ticketitems and there was no need to carry anything for the consumer with limitedfunds. He had pretty much lost his customer base by the time I left. You cant payyour bills anymore by selling to a few high end customers and leaving out themultitudes of lower end sales. I've always found it funny that a buisness will spend thousands (orhundreds of thousands) on advertising, actually get people in their store, andthen not have anything to sell them. Kind of defeats the purpose doesnt it? What do you think the odds are that they will come back when they actually*have* some money to spend? Probably not real good. They are going to continueto go to that store that has sold them $1000.00 worth of $250.00 rings over thelast few years.
JEWELRY RUBY RING : Hmmmmmmmmmm, you think maybe thats why they're leaders in the industry? They are supplying what the customer wants at the price the customer wants topay. As long as they aren't lowering the workmanship in the piece (yes I knowmany are) what is the problem with selling the consumer what they want asopposed to what you think they should have. There is alot of that out there. They sell poorly made jewelry knowing fullwell that some will come back and they will have to replace it. If you want tocall THAT crap I will be more than happy to agree with you. That is a problem in the industry (but it always has been). They are goingfor the short term gain and screw the long term consequences. Those placesnever last long. How much repeat buisness do you think they get? Build yourreputation on honesty, quality, fair pricing, and selection, and they wont everbe the competion. JEWELRY RUBY RING : I don't have a prima donna attitude towards my customers. I have many, many, many items that retail below $299 more for less than $199 and evenmore for less than $99. I was merely stating my opinion for Pete thecustomer of how jewelers view created stones. I have an oval ruby ring with1/3 ct of diamonds sitting in my case for $499. The center is approx. 1/2ct. If I knew that somebody was spending $300 ona created ruby, when mygenuine is $500, I would advise them against it. You see, in my experience,it doesn't really matter how much the ring cost in the long run. Anybodythat can spen 3 hundred can spend 5. I know that the big chains are sellinghuge created rubies to hit a $99 price point. I preffer to keep myreputation 'sparkling' by only selling genuine, quality jewelry ataffordable price points so that years down the road, my customers can stillenjoy their purchase rather than having to replace created baguette rubiesset in paper thin shanks which are too thin to be sized from the get-go. Idon't think that because a company can rise to the top (probably because ofadvertising and gulible consumers) selling cast in place I2's, TLB's, paperthin shanks, etc that I should pattern my business after them.I guess in your opinion NE333R0, clarity enhanced diamonds are OK too sincethe fill a void in the market place? I can see it now, here honey, here'syour clarity enhanced diamond engagement ring for your left hand, and acreated ruby for your right. Enjoy them, I'm going to go sleep in the backyard. JEWELRY RUBY RING : -Stanley BrightOwnerA&M JewelersAntique & Modern JewelryBaltimore, MarylandStanley: are you comparing apples and apples, or apples andpomegranates?? By that I mean, how nice is that 1/2 carat natural rubyin your $500 ring? Is it transparent or translucent? Heavilyincluded? Burmese or African? I'm willing to bet that the $300 ringhas a center stone that **LOOKS** gorgeous. Maybe it's a $5flame-fusion ruby, maybe a better synthetic, who knows. If yours is anice, relatively clean, good color transparent Burmese stone, then Iwant to know where you are getting them, to be able to afford to sellthat ring for $500! >I think you'd have to charge more like $500-600 JUST FOR THE STONE, toprovide a good quality Burmese ruby that begins to look as good as theinexpensive synthetic. If not, then you have a great deal to teach meand a lot of others about where to buy stones! Where do I sign up forclass?? JEWELRY RUBY RING : Note I am not disagreeing with you about the desireability, rarity, value, etc. of the natural stone. I don't care much for synthetics as arule, myself. But they have their place -- for instance, I gave myniece a nice gold pendant with an 8x10mm flawless, top-color emerald forher 16th birthday. So that my sister wouldn't have heart failure whenher daughter opened the box, I took care to explain to them thedifference between the Russian hydrothermal stone ($30 per carat) andnatural emeralds. The niece loves it, wears it every chance she gets, and is already talking about "someday" when she can get a "real one"like it.I can't attest to the origin but it looks good. It does have an inclusionbut if it was a red diamond it would be an SI2. Very acceptable in my book.
