JEWELRY SET : It is not often that you are able to find a vintage set as complete and asnice as this one. In sky blue enamel; choker, bracelet, and screw-backearrings! All clasps and fasteners work smoothly and securely. All enamel isin good shape, with only a few small chips here and there. This comes withoriginal box, which should tell you how careful this woman was with herjewelry. Very clean - none of the dirt build up often seen in vintagepieces. Choker measures 17" x 1" and has an adjustable closure. See close updetail in second pic. Bracelet measures 7.5" x 1.5" (really impressive) -see close up detail in third pic. Earrings are about 1" in diameter. A paleblue color - like the sky on a summer day. In the first picture, it seems tolook white, but the 2nd and 3rd pictures are closest to true color. From theestate of a wealthy Canadian woman whose 86 year old brother has decided topart with her jewelry. I am in the US - don't worry about internationalcharges unless you are out of US.

Icompleted a separate course in fine jewelry sales, but even their DiamondGrading courses are geared towards retail sales.
JEWELRY SET : Dunno where I heard (read) this, but here's a story about such things:This guy had some jewelry that he needed photographed, so he hired a pro. Pro shows up the next morning with a small bag slung over his shoulder, and a very large white styrofoam cup of coffee, which he sat and proceeded to sip. After a few minutes, the guy began to wonder what he'd hired, but said nothing. Eventually, the cameraman finished the coffee and sauntered over to a nearby water fountain, where he took a good long drink and rinsed out the styrofoam cup.Next, he dug out his gear, a beat-up looking SLR and a couple of flashes that were wired together loosely. The guy already had the jewelry set up on white paper, so the pro takes his gear over to the table. He then proceeds to cut the bottom out of the styrofoam cup and insert the camera lens into the cup. He places this over the first piece of jewelry, focuses the camera, connects the flashes which he arranges on either side of the cup. And takes one shot, moving on to the next piece.
JEWELRY SET : When using my 4800 on a makeshift copy stand in the close-up mode, Ican make very sharp copies of b& w and color photographs. But whentrying to get a documentary shot of a piece of small jewelry, Icouldn't get a sharp picture, no matter what I tried.The subject was a white gold ladies pin, flat, about 1 1/2 in. wide,1/2 in. high, and maybe a fat 1/8 in. thick. I was over theprescribed .7 in. camera distance, using closeup, program, tungsten,neutral, 1.6MP, and the rest were default settings.The background was neutral gray velvet cloth, later, a flat gray card.The background was sharp as a tack. I couldn't figure out way toturn off the auto focus. Can auto focus BE turned off? I even triedusing manual F stops to increase DOF, no dice. Any suggestions?
JEWELRY SET : IMO, you have encountered a shortcoming of not being able to override manualfocus. Placement of a solid object at the same distance as the desiredobject, then half-pressing the shutter button should lock in focus. I suggest you set the camera manually, and use as smallan aperture as possible. Next, go to the suggestion offered by Dev? was agood one. Experiment with your exposures. I would bring a gray card to thesame level as the jewelry, set the focus and exposure information. Use theSpot metering, and some exact measurement 'ruler, measured string, etc.'.You will then know what distances were used. You can do this as many timesas it takes, as there is no cost. Once you get the image you want youshould be OK, record the settings so you can use in the future.
