MOTHERS BRACELETS BEADS : opps sorry I ran that all together in my excitment of being finshed withmy sales tax stuff VOK,OK, yall are confusing me! I thought that if you make something and sellit you MUST collect sales tax(state of TX) and send it in. And if you don't, then THAT will get you in trouble. I thought the number I get from thestate of TX was the number you need for buying wholesale. Just shows howmuch I need to learn! I hadn't even thought about the IRS yet!Yall have helped me decide this: Find beads at a good price by knowing myprices. ( I am embarrassed to say that I bought some silver alphabet beadsfor $1.89 each!) Then I need to see how much time I really have for makingthese mothers bracelets etc for friends. Then, if there's still time tobead and seriously sell, ...well that's a different story. Fairy tale morelike it!

They have free or cheap brochures and books that outline thebasics.Here in Santa Barbara County of California, the local county business office(I forget the exact title - it is a 5 block walk from our home so I don'tneed to remember [SCS - Senior Citizen Syndrome]) also provides informationabout business tax questions.AND, our city business license office provides basic information and a listof references. The good point - they are nice and polite and generous withinformation. The bad point - they want money for a business license tosneeze in town. (OK, as for the "nice and helpful" - I "might" have beeninfluenced by the fact the business license lady is a FOX.)
MOTHERS BRACELETS BEADS : I have always found these city licensing folk (in Seattle,WA and Lompoc, CA)to be much more helpful than beaurocratic. Of course, since you are in TX,the information from WA and CA will be only partially applicable. The pointis, contact your local city, county, and state resources. They don't wantto jail you - they want you to know what your obligations and options are.If you contact one, in my experience, they provide links to the others.To quote from their web site: "The SCORE association (Service Corps ofRetired Executives) is a resource partner with the U.S. Small BusinessAdministration. SCORE is dedicated to aiding in the formation, growth, andsuccess of small business nationwide."I've never contacted them - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Mybusiness ventures have been a draw at best - you want to do better! :-)
