OMEGA WATCH : An "Insurance Appraisal" is not a good indication of what you would get if you tried to sell your watch. First, insurance appraisals are meant to reflect the cost of replacing your lost/stolen property with an identical (or as near as possible) piece of jewellery at full current-retail costs. This incudes the markup and often the taxes you would expect to pay. As a result the appraisal is usually twice to three times what a jeweller would pay for yur watch wholesale. The, appraisals also down play (or omit) the cost of wear and tear your watch will have, as well as the lack of warranty, servicing, etc. On top of this a business will expect a substantial discount off of the wholesale price it could buy your watch for new, in order for it to convince itself to buy it used from you when it probably won't be able to sell it right away. The net result is that you could expect to get 15-20% of a (honest, eg not inflated) insurance apraised value if you go to sell your watch to a business.
OMEGA WATCH : A better route is to ask for an independent appraisal/estimate of what your watch is worth if it was sold today 1, to a business, and 2, to an individual. Make it clear you are after information and not an offer from him/her. An independent certified appraiser will be able to do this for you. Then decide wether you want to immediately dispose of it (eg sell it to a business) or wether you want to place a classified and sell it that way. Which ever path you chose you will have some leg work to do to find a client.P.S. The first offer sounded as if he/she was offering you a sum equal to the gold content of the watch. (if the watch is not very desireable in terms of appearance, this may be all you will be able to get, or it may take you quite awhile to find a buyer) Alternatively, you may want to have the bezel (face) replaced with something more appealing (and there are lots of options) and wear it yourself. Omega's were good watchs.

It has>approximately 65 grams of gold and a semi-precious stone face (tiger's...Any form of appraisal will usually result in an inflated price and cast dillusons as to a "reasonable asking price" for selling the watch. I've seen many individuals bring me a Rolex or Omega (or similar grade of watch) with an appraisal for, say, $1000, and expect to receive that much in a sale. Now, it's fairly common knowledge that nobody would pay $1000 for a watch appraised at $1000. Usually, I figure I could re-sell the watch for 75% of that price (hence, $750). And, that would mean that a reasonable asking price would likely fall in the $500 range. (These prices have nothing to do with the Omega in question, but are merely examples to clarify my point).
OMEGA WATCH : I am curious about the opinion on both of theses watchs . Both look great butfrom my understanding the speedmaster is a wind-up watch and the automaticversion has a power reserve of about 50 hours . My problem is I am not thetype of person who wants to wear the same watch all the time . I want tochange ever so often so winding up a watch or shaking it so it will staywinded becomes a bit tedious . On the other hand thier is the X33 acombination of hitech and luxury all in one time piece that is more expensvethan the speedmaster . I am not a mechanical watch freak or a real watchcollector in general but when you are thinking of spending that much money ona watch you start to ask alot of questions . I am one of those guys thatbought alot of timexs and casios in highschool who now buys seikos ( citizenis ok but the luminecious on thier watches don't work well). I have alsobought a few swatches in my time but most if not all of them were lost exceptfor a swatch irony I gave to my brother . Anyway back to the X33 ,its a greatlooking watch and I have always heard good things about omega . So to make myquestions clear is it worth while to spend that much money on a watch ? Whichwatch in the long run is the better buy not for resale but for just the priceand enjoyment ?
