ORIS WATCHES : Is anyone familiar with oris watches? I just saw an advertisement for their 'Sporty Elegance' and I really liked it. I have heard the name before but I've never seen one. It sounds like it is exactly what I want but about half the cost of the other watches I am looking at. (Tag S/el's and several Omega's). If anyone could tell me what they think of them, it would be appreciated. Like most of you, I'm sure, I get pickey with watches and would hate to order something I've never seen; however, to find a fine watch a less than half (or maybe even 1/3) the cost I was looking for would be great.My husband has had an Oris watch for a year now, don't remember themodel name but I think that this is the one. Still happy with it'slooks and performance...
ORIS WATCHES : There are more and more mechanical watches coming out at less than$1000 prices; for example, seems like I've just seen some ads fromHamilton with some automatic models.Is anyone familiar with oris watches? I just saw an advertisement forAt one time Oris used to specialise in pin pallet watches, at the lowerend of the market. Nowadays they are completely different. All Oriswatches now use movements from the higher quality end of the ETA range. These are then modified in various ways by Oris. For example, one oftheir watches has the hour hand and minute hand on different centres.They tend to focus on the "retro" look, although they do make somemodern styles as well. In all cases they have particularly wellpresented dials, with excellent tooling and finish.
ORIS WATCHES : They are considerably cheaper than Omega, et al, but still not reallycheap to an average working person. (Now that Omega are using ETAmovements in many of their watches, it is difficult to see how theyjustify the big price differential). Nevertheless, you should rememberthat the ETA movements in Oris watches will never be as distinguished asthe own-brand movements to be found in Zenith, Le Coultre, etc.What's the general opinion of Oris? His address is:He shipped it to me with a dealer stamp from Singapore and openpapers.After a long period of wanting to buy a nice mechanical watch, having previously owned a number of cheap'n'nasty quartz efforts, I bought an Oris automatic chronograph today; on sale at a local jewellers; I'm just after some reassurance that I didn't get ripped off, and that I got quite a nice watch!It certainly leapt out and said 'buy me'; being quite restrained in terms of style, but also oozing quality of construction. Being on a third discount made the decision easier!
ORIS WATCHES : Anyone have any info on the ORIS brand of wrist watches? I've seen acouple recently, and am keen to find out what their reputation is.About all I know right now is that they've been around since 1904, areSwiss, and are still in business.I have an ORIS Modern Classic (ORIS Caliber 640, Model 7476) in SS. Paid about $700 for it locally (list $1095).ORIS typically uses in-house modified ETA movements, and their typical feature is a pointer calendar around the perimeter of the dial. Only one of their movements is a COSC-certified Chronometer (Calber 641 - minor change to Caliber 640.) Accuracy after almost three months is a daily rate of -6 seconds a day - although it gains when left face up off the watch. Good enough for me.
