PLASTIC BEADS : You're right - some people don't think before they speak. Don't let onenasty reply keep you away from this newsgroup. Let's just hope thatindividual was having a bad day at the time and isn't an instructor.Have you checked out www.egroups.com? You can join a number of webgroups once you sign up. There's no cost and there's a group you cansubscribe to called learn2bead that has a lot of great information andtechniques.By the way, I still do holiday earrings with plastic stars I get fromEnterprise Art. I make up a batch and my mom takes them to the salonshe frequents in Lodi, CA. Last year I made about $100.00 during theholidays. Was enough to buy some bead books and a few other supplies.I haven't bought from Enterprise Beads but I have bought plastic from GeneralBeads and some other sources. I buy whatever I want (that I can afford) andsometimes that's plastic. Thinking REAL strong about starting to make sometiny polymer clay beads, too.

PLASTIC BEADS : This group is for the serious pro and the funtime hobby folks. So we're gonnahave disagreements; get used to it. Shrug it off. Teenagers to seniors fromaround the world. So we've learned to write in various ways. If someone's postings really irk you, then block them. Ignore the folks thatoffend you. Most importantly, HAVE FUN! All are welcome as long as the post in some wayshape or form relates to beads. Basic beginner questions to technical lampworkstuff that I don't have the foggiest idea what the question is! Sources, techniques, buying, selling, and bragging are the most common subjects but wedon't limit ourselves to just those. Some people get hurt easily on boards and newsgroups. We ain't gonna pleaseall. That's life. Get over the hurts and move on or come back for anotherround.

PLASTIC BEADS : Compared to most groups, the beaders are extremely friendly, polite andhelpful. Got some groups I have to leave sometimes, and others I nowcompletely avoid (like rec.crafts.jewelry)Ever so often the trolls come stomping through. We do our best to ignore them,so they'll move on quickly. And by that, don't think that if a post goesunanswered that we think the person's a troll, an idiot or unworthy in someother way; sometimes their ain't no good answers. I still wanna find some 2mmround pressed glass AND THE WORLD'S IGNORING ME! But I've got some realnice 2 mm round plastic that I use. Some of it I was certain was glass; I'deven broken a few to make sure!So come and go as you please. Some of us are live-ins here. Others dart toand fro like hummingbirds. Which reminds me that one of my hummingbird feederswas about empty last night; gotta go fill it.

PLASTIC BEADS : Thank yuou Lewis and Victoria! The hurtful remark was in relation to the answerI posted about using plastic. I decided not to take the remark personally butam very glad that others responded. I have in general found this group to besupportive and full of friendly and giving folks. I know many older ladies who due to medical conditions canot tolerate theweight of glass and therefore will opt for lighter plastic embellishments orbeaded neckstraps. Enterprise Art is the retail brach of Cousin Corp. who spenda great effort at offering lovely faceted (yes sparkly) plastic beads in 4, 6,8, 10 & 12mm. The quality, color and uniformity of their faux pearls (Japanquality) is outstanding! Remember we were all beginners once. I have seen incredible designs frombeginners who were not yet hampered by "how to" do things rules. Lets allagree to keep our hearts and minds open.

PLASTIC BEADS : Right now I'm not up to necklaces or adding to lovely silk blouses but I willkeep your ideas in mind when I do. I simply wanted to know the pros and consof glass vs. plastic for the future. The only things I'm selling now don't need warnings....when I get to necklaces, etc. I will use glass because I'm not a low-life who would cheat customers justto save a few bucks. What is Rio Grande? If I could find glass as cheap or cheaper than plastic (oreven within a few bucks) I would go ahead and buy glass and start making niceritems and learning jewelry techniques. Any ideas? I've looked at FireMountain and they seem much higher than plastic (and I understand why....I knowglass is much better than plastic but once again we have the whole financialrestraints thing...) so I would be grateful to any help anyone can give!
