PONY BEADS PROJECTS : This will be an interesting test of how well I can walk a middleground between satisfying my urge to steer people toward good beads atreasonable prices, and to persuade them to advance the interests of myemployer by buying things -there-.I'll bear the watch faces in mind. It looks good, and is closest in feel toworking ss wire, which would be the next step up. You might check to see ifMichael's carries it, and to have them get some in if they can, in 22, 20,and 18gaYes, brass wire is a good thing to use, IMO. And readily available.I plan to bring some of the large quantities of copper wire I alreadyhave ... and Michaels does stock plain copper, as well as color-coatedCraft Wire. It is useful to practice at first on wire that isinexpensive enough so you aren't afraid to fail and have to startover. Gives you a freedom to try until you have a bit of confidence inyour control.

PONY BEADS PROJECTS : Yup. I've already been doing this. And I've used the flat glasspebbles as cabs in myh own work before, too. And covering a box orframe using Terrifically Tacky Tape and Beadz is something thatalready occurred to me, too .There are lots of perfectly decent things available at Michaels.Unfortunately, the actual *beads* they sell are 10 to 1 by volume theicky stuff rather then the good stuff. Mainly becausethe profit-margin has got to be huge when the gap between what theyprobably pay, and what they can get away with charging is so big.I can try to educate my students about quality so they recognize itwhen they see it, but I doubt I will convince corporate Michaels thatthey will make more money if they stock better stuff, and educatetheir customers about why it is better. Instead, they are more likelyto drive customers to their competitors as soon as they gain someknowledge about what works best and last longest in pleasing andfunctional shape.
PONY BEADS PROJECTS : I have a 6 year old niece who always wants to help when I do my cross-stitch. She would like to do it but I worry that she is too young to be handling sharp needles. Can anyone give an idea of what kind of project she could do that would be safe? I've seen the children's plastic craft needles for plastic canvas and such, but what kind of patterns would be good for a young child? I can't see her doing a tissue box cover or a dollhouse (which is what I'm doing for her). Any suggestions appreciated...My daughter is 5 years old and just did her first stitched piece. I justgave her a piece of plastic canvas and some wool and away she went. Noneof the stitches she did would EVER be found in any book but in the endshe came up with a picture of a little girl playing with a ball on grasswith clouds and stars. She showed more creativity in her first piece then I have ever had in any of mine. You can also cut the plastic canvas into shapes like fish or butterflys and have her decorate it. If you buy her some of the very large tapestry needles she would not be able to hurtherself unless she really tried.
