SPINNER RINGS : Hi All! I need a good source to find the tiny 1/8" snap rings and swivels sothat I can use them on all my model rockets. If they have a closure like a safety pin,they can and will pop open at just the wrong time.Better snap swivels can be had from kite companies like Into the Wind. Checkthe FAQ. Try the nearest sport fishing store. The snap rings are in a lot of spinner bait kits.Just check the fishing department at WalMart! SPINNER RINGS : Well the spinner on my bf-109 has been primed with floquil brightsilver. Next I have to paint it white - The front 1/2 is supposed tobe white.I figure I will paint the entire thing white then, after it dries, dipthe thing - nose first - into a container of Hobbico Liquid maskingagent. I cant think of a better way to mask off the front 1/2 of thespinner at this time...... what u guys think?On top of this, the paint scheme shows 6-8 concentric green stripes(rings) around the front 1/2 of the spinner, over the white... I haveno idea how I am gona do this. I thought of buying a small motor atradio shack, mounting the propeller to it and, while the spinner isspinning, touch a small brush to it with green paint... Or mebe dip apiece of thread in green paint then, holding it like dental floss,letting it rub agains the moving spinner.........

Or you could spray the white, stick the nose end in aproper diameter piece of brass tubing, and spray the other color.You could take the easy way out, I believe that there is a decal mfr. outthere who makes a spinner decal. It could be Meteor Productions thatcarries or manufactures the line.I would look for you, but I am still waiting for an answer as to why theywon't send me Avions (isn't my $$$ good enough for a reply?).This is a real tricky one Chris. But these kind of challenges keep up thefun of the hobby right?I assume it is a G or F model spinner right? And the white/striped part isthe part from the gun port to the seam in the spinner which is not even halfof the spinner and has a strong curvature? Then the white part doesn't seemthat difficult to me. I would do that with a thin strip of plain ordinarycellotape. In case of a silver rear-half, i would paint the white first.
SPINNER RINGS : For the stripes i would try the following: Cover the spinner with a coat ofsome masking fluid. Then place the spinner with its backplate on a flatsurface. And place a fresh sharp razorblade firmly, horizontally on therequired hight on some kind of "shims" and gently rotate the spinner alongthe razorblade. And finally peel off the masking. I guess most of the workwill be finding the "shims" of appropriate thickness. Unless you have someadjustable stand which can hold the razorblade firmly.I've tried using a small motor myself once, but found the resultdisappointing because the motor spinned too fast and it was really difficultto mount the part perpendicular to the shaft. But perhaps you do manage toget good results that way.
SPINNER RINGS : Anybody have any ideas on how to make a ring? We just wanna make a cheapone, nothing professional or anything. I've heard that a lot of people usehoses as ropes, that sounds like a good idea. Just curious as to what youall use.The message from "Jeremy Sneed" contains these words: Hoses OK, but you need some decent (20mm of thicker) wire to run thru them or they'll just break (unlesse you're biggest guys are sub 90pounds!)A few old matresses (no more than 2 deep, the wood will break) with 3/4" plywood laced together over them works well, forget the ropes unless u have a dedicated piece of ground availiable, then get hold of 4 strainers (thick fence posts) and cement em into the ground...Thanks for the advice Spinner! Would you happen to know how big aregulation WWF or WCW ring is? I've heard that the two are slightlydifferent sizes, I'm thinking about 20 X 20 or close to that.
