TEMPE BEADS : But seriously.....short version...Phoenix is land-locked in terms of gettingfuel. We have pipelines coming in from El Paso via Tucson (basically alongI-10) and one from California (along the other side of I-10). One of theTucson ones ruptured for reasons unknown last week. Spilled several thousandgallons of premium gas into the desert then shut down. Regular is stillavailable through the other pipeline, and really we only lost 30% of what wewere getting. But yanno how people turn into panicked sheep when you tellthem they can't have ALL of something? Well, over the weekend the linesstarted forming and the prices went up.Add to it the fact that, to abate air pollution in the valley (which is likea big bowl and all the nasty stuff settles right down, depending on theweather patterns) we are required to use a special additive in our gas tomake it burn extra clean. Sadly, it's nasty stuff (there's anenvironmentalist conundrum for you) so that patch of gas-spilled desert ANDits water table will be a mess for a very long time. AND getting the"proper" formulation on demand is something of a problem. Luckily thegovernor wrote an emergency order allowing regular regular gas to be used inthe meantime. That means we can bring in more from the CA pipeline thanusual. Demand goes up, prices go up, on the CA side. That, to me, is realvoodoo economics. Mind you, these are the same two states thatregularly fight over water rights, and that gets real ugly. TEMPE BEADS : So, overall, you have the pumping problems in the east, from the blackout, and this spill in the southwest, and unscrupulous and (in some places)unregulated sellers taking advantage of the whole thing. Any excuse to makean extra buck.I forget - what part of the valley did you finally settle in when you moved-- Iremember that I sent you (years ago ) info about places to go....I lived in Tempe as a child.....back when Scotsdale, Glendale, Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix were SEPARATE citieswith desert in between... LOLCheryl of DRAGON BEADS Flameworked beads and glass CA has higher gas prices because they have greater EPA requirements. What I can't figure is why the gas from Alaska costs more in Fairbanks thanin the States. We even have a refinery 15 miles away. TEMPE BEADS : Could anyone give a list of good beads stores in phoenix orscottsdale. Barry Smiler MDDr. Smiler,Hi. I am a CMA and live in East Mesa. I wish we had more bead storesavailable here locally. There are numerous stores in Tucson but seem to beonly a handful here locally. If you use delica beads it is even harder tofind a local supplier, although I have managed to find two. Here are a fewof the local area stores that I have found. These all have a large varietyof beads. My best and fastest resource so far has been to order fromFIREMOUNTAIN GEMS . I am not affiliated with anyof these bead suppliers in any way but Firemountain sent me an EXCELLENTcatalog (which you can request online) They have EVERYTHING and I don'thave to spend the time, energy and wasted gas money driving around looking. They sell everything from freshwater pearls, delicas, seed beads, beads ofall sizes, thread, wire, glue.......you name it.....they sell it. Theirprices are super and after I ordered the first time, I received a free giftwith my order and it arrived two days after I ordered it!! You can't beatthat for service. Their phone number is: 1-800-355-2137 (24 hours a day)The local stores are:
