THROW BEADS : At mardi gras [and apparently all through the year] people willstand on the balconies of bars that overlook Burbon Street. Andthey will call down to the pretty ladies in the street below andtry to get them to show their boobies. If the lady agrees andflashes, the people above will throw down a necklace of beads.Apparently it is some sort of status symbol to get a whole heckof a lot of bead necklaces.On a tour I took through another part of the city called theGarden District, I heard that the beads were actually more forthe kids. At mardi gras parades outside of Burbon street it is afamily thing. And the kids will sit on their parent's shouldersand try to get folks above them to throw beads and candy at them.Apparently they learn to speak in this order, "Momma" "Daddy" and"throw somefing at me"....
THROW BEADS : OK, I've said it before and now I'll admit it. the muse has left thebuilding. So, what would you do with:*over 50 colors of seed beads-various quantities and finishes*earhooks-gold and silver*various stone beads (even some plastic pearls for variety)*good grasp of peyote, brick, square and various other stitches*some toggle clasps*a LOT of white nymo (medium big spool)*small needle nose and round nose pliers*34 and 24 gauge wire*assorted lengths and colors bugle beads*all the other stuff I can't think of right nowGiven the fact there's 4 kids to deal with and a house to clean, I'll bedoing this first and then attempting to create things. I just wanted someideas.I want ideas on things to make with them. Have them stored in bags, ontrays by color on a shelf on my desk. Or elsewhere on my desk. Just can'tseem to get anything together in my head. Like I said, it might just bebreak time.
THROW BEADS : You lost me on the white nymo. It's my pet peeve that so many beaders usewhite nymo for everything and it shows like a bad panty line.Actually, I've been sleeping. I think I may have just been very very verytired (trying to do to much and if finally caught up with me) Sleepdeprivation-what a wonderful drug. And it's free!!! And it's been reallyhot which also makes me tired. Thanks for your input. Only recently beenlearning what a no-no white nymo is. It works OK for most of what I do(lighter cases and earrings-you don't see too much thread) When I run out,I'll get another color or something else.I'd suggest going buck wild. You have a lot of good stuff there, and thereis so much you could do with it. Lately, I've been considering branchingaway from Jewelry to more artistic decorative things.
THROW BEADS : I bought one of those candle lanterns with a lampshade for less than a buckat a clearance sale at the fabric shop. I've beaded the lampshade, andfound that it was too top heavy to stand. So, now I'm going to run sometubular peyote over the candle part, and then set the whole base part in aclay plant pot partially filled with plaster of Paris. As the plasterdries, I'll put a sprinkling or three of ugly beads there. The wholeproject cost me less than two dollars, because I have any number of seedbeads to use for the candle and the lampshade.This week, I made two collars for my favorite dog, Sophie. One was RAW,embellished with big, lurid crystals, and the other was a simple Ndebeletube with alternating rows of cranberry, mango and creamy yellow beads. I'mgoing to throw together tow more "manly" versions for my brother's two dogs,who are the same breed as my Sophie.
THROW BEADS : Inspired by Shirley Stone, I got a couple of tassels at the fabric store(cheep! cheep! since they were to practice upon.) I covered the top partwith spiral tubular peyote in forest green and gold and attached a nicespiral chain in the same colors. Voila' I just made a tie back for thecurtain between my dining and living rooms, and no one else will ever haveon just like it.I loomed a lovely patriotic design into four strips, and used the strips tocover a plain old, cheap picture frame. It hung around unused until lastweek, when the frame was used at the funeral to display her dad's purpleWell ask Kathy and you shall receive. What time did you go to bed afterwriting this? lol
