TRAINING WATCHES : I think I'd like to give myself a gift of one of these in the near future, but I have a few questions first:1) what does "50 laps", "100 laps" really mean, as a feature on the watches? Is it the max number of splits it can record?2) if laps = max recorded splits, anyone with a suggestion as to why 50 maynot be enough in a fairly common scenario?3) How accurate is the GPS system with this watch for measuring distance?Anybody tested it much? I know that it *should* be pretty accurate, butstill...one never knows...4) any other difference between the 50/100 lap models besides the number oflaps?5) any present owner of one of these watches have any particular commentspositive/negative to share?________________________________________ ______________________________Posted Via Uncensored-News.Com - Still Only $9.95 - The Worlds Uncensored News Source I just posted about a problem with the watch in a thread just below thisone, but I seem to have solved it, so here are some (hopefully) helpfulanswers:

TRAINING WATCHES : 1)50 is indeed the number of splits. I can't imagine too many scenarios inwhich you'd need more than that. I personally only use the split timerduring races, but I know others may have reasons to use them more often andin higher quantity.3)The watch seems quite accurate during my so-far limited use.4)I believe the 100 lap model has a nicer strap. Other than that, I don'tbelieve there are any differences.5)I did have a problem getting the GPS unit to function properly at first. But, with a few tips in hand from other users, I believe I have solved theproblem. (The main issue seems to be when and how to turn the GPS unit onbefore each run - I've just found out that the best way is to turn it onwhile standing still outdoors, wait for it to acquire the satellite signal, and then leave on your run). I'd like to run a few more times with it to besure, but I think it's OK. It's fairly easy to use and does have quite afew nice functions in addition to the GPS, although the distance/pacemonitor is the main reason I bought it.

TRAINING WATCHES : 6)I bought it for $133 at alsgiftshoppe.com, which was by far the lowestprice I've seen for it.Just curious,...did you happen to start the GPS function at the start ofyour marathon run, so that it should have read "26.2" at the finish line?(that would seem an ideal test of the distance accuracy...)Haven't used the GPS for a marathon yet .. I was on the old Timex Ironmanback then! I'm looking forward to using it for a race on a certifiedcourse.Ran a race last Saturday but I'd just gotten the watch and hadn't figured itout yet.I'm going to run the Army Ten Miler on Sunday. I intend to wear the GPShowever, my tests on measured courses in the area put it right on. As amatter of fact, the thing is accurate enough to note the difference from runningaround my neighborhood on opposite sides of a curving street.

TRAINING WATCHES : I owned a Timex S&D GPS watch for about 6 months. Here is what I found:1) 50 lap vs. 100 lap - While you would think this is a no brainer, thereare several features on the 100 lap watch (zone/distance alerts) that arequite handy to have. The watch will not auto split your miles (This ispatented by Fitsense), but it will beep at a predetermined distance (I used1 mile). The 50 lap watch does not do this, but I think it looks a littlebetter.2) Accuracy - The watch is quite accurate on flat surfaces on sunny days(Almost 100%). Cloudy days with tree cover can give it problems and eventhough there is a battery level display on the watch, it does not report lowbattery's timely enough and the thing gets REALLY poor reception when thereceivers batteries are low. Also, the GPS seems to be 2d and you do notget credit for hilly courses (It is actually a benefit for training! ;) )

TRAINING WATCHES : 3) Al's Gift Shoppe seems to be the hands down favorite place on the net tobut one - $150ish for the 100 lap model.4) Other points. I did not like wearing the receiver on my arm, the strapwas uncomfortable for long runs (18 miles or more). I do not like wearinganything on my arm, so this is partially my issue. I did not like the factthat I could not upload the data to my computer and there was not option forheart rate at the same time. The watch is really nice and easy to use. Ifyou have used Timex watches in training before, it is a "no brainer" to usethis watch.I sold my GPS watch last week and I opted for a Fitsense watch with all thebells and whistles, thus far I like getting all the data, but calibratingthe watch has been a bit more difficult than I expected, but I think I havethat squared away now.
