VINTAGE BEADS

sterling silver beads, gems beads, turquoise earrings, Peridot

VINTAGE BEADS : I've bought some beads froms bins marked "Vintage" at bead shows. Ihave some questions about the term. What is considered "Vintage"? Something used before? Over a certainage? Something not produced any more? There seems to be as many opinionsas there are beads. Does adding vintage beads to a project increase it's value? Probablyonly to people who care about such things? I'm not going to worry about it. I'll buy what beads I like if they'reat the price I can afford. From: ()Subject: Re: "Vintage" Beads Newsgroups: Date: 2000-11-18 04:55:45 PST Great to know....Thanks...Carolyn's pieces are so gorgeous. VINTAGE BEADS : Susie Edwards is the delightful owner of "Pudgy Beads," a vintage bead company. She spoke last year at the Bead Society of New Jersey, and gave us some tipsfor recognizing vintage beads. With her permission, here is the informationshe gave us, along with information about her business.Suzanne Hye1. The most obvious, look for a tag or some kind of documentation. Oftentimesthis is not possible because not all vintage carries the original tags.2. Study bead and jewelry design books. On very good one is Glass in Jewelryby Sibylle Jargstorf.3. Learn to identify colors and hues.4. Learn to recognize finishes.5. Learn to recognize shapes. Although some of the old molds are used inproduction today, study them anyway. 6. Study details, and learn to recognize them – Art Deco, etc. 9. Learn to recognize the difference between lampwork, pressed, molded, etc.10. Learn to recognize the minute differences between different regions. Japanese and Czech/German aremore difficult to distinguish the difference. Indian beads are a lot easier because of inferior quality of glass used andworkmanship.“Whatever you do, make collecting a fun experience!”

VINTAGE BEADS : Susie EdwardsPudgy Beads6230 Wilshire Blvd., #76Los Angeles, CA 90048323-934-9171/fax 232-936-3186e-mail I enjoy visiting the Pudgy Beads table at bead shows -- I've picked up quite a fewbags of exciting beads there. Some of my favorites are the non-glass ones withrhinestones studded in them -- the little cone-shaped ones and those sweet littledisks; gosh love 'em. And Susie is delightful, a pleasure to talk with, very openand warm-hearted.Something not produced any more? There seems to be as many opinions as thereare beads.the "true" definition refers to the correct number of years old. Since I amnever sure of this number (or the age of my beads!) I generally only use theterm to refer to beads that are not produced anymore. And it does seem toimpress my customers in general (for reference, my customer tends to be over 30college educated)

VINTAGE BEADS : I have just listed some very unique Vintage bead items on ebay.Follow this link. Just what does this mean in the world of beading...I ordered VINTAGE 4mmRosaline Matte cube beads..and they just look like Rosaline matte cubebeads...Don't get me wrong. I like them..but what makes them special...Does VINTAGE have any definition..? or does it just make the price a littlehigher..I'm not sure anyone else saw your post, so I'll try to answer.Vintage to me means that the beads are no longer being made. I can'treally go on the age of the beads because so many sellers will use theword vintage when the beads are only from the 70's or 80's. To me itmeans that there is only a small supply of the beads and once they'regone, they're never to be made again.

VINTAGE BEADS : But I have seen on auctions lately that old molds are being used againto create "new" vintage beads. Be sure to check out the descriptionsin the beads to see if that's where your vintage beads are comingfrom. As far as the time frame as to what makes a vintage beads... I forgot.that.--LindaSoozFriends help you move; really good friends help you move the body.sooz- excellent link- bookmarked it and sent it aloong for my jewelryladies... smiles, have a terrific week, smiles, susie g--Susie Gibson***********The Crafty Christian Newslist---------------Susie G Jewelry Newslist---------------------join info***********************Have a Blessed day!!!***********************"Sooz& quot; wrote in message...Periods of Vintage Jewelry Explained:SoozFriends help you move; really good friends help you move the body.Checked by AVG anti-virus system ().Version: 6.0.372 / Virus Database: 207 - Release Date: 6/20/02
