WATCHES CITIZEN : The PC interface is a major advantage of the Citizen over the Casio.I believe it also stores more dives as well as more information abouteach dive. I also think the Citizen is cheaper! I've had my Citizenfor about 2 years and over 80 dives and I'm still on the originalbattery.I can't tell you how much I love it. It's so handy to have a watchas my depth guage. It's so much easier than looking for my consoleall the time.I have a Hyper Aqualand and I love it. It saves all the pertinent info, including temp and of course, you can download it to your pc and get thegraphics on your dive. There are a lot of dive watches that give you depthand temp but the aqualand IMHO outshines them because of the pc interface. That said however, if I had to do it all over again I would purchase aSuunto Vyper computer. It does all of what the hyper aqualand does and awhole lot more. Naturally, you wouldn't wear the vyper as a wristwatch whenyou aren't diving because it is so big but in my case I usually use theaqualand only for diving so it wouldn't matter. I have a Datamax Pro Pluscomputer and it doesn't give much info of the dive without getting theoptional pc interface kit. The vyper's info is available for your viewingafter your dive without having to download anything.

WATCHES CITIZEN : Anyway, I like using my aqualand because it is easier to glance at duringthe dive than reaching for my console. Hope this info helped.I too cast my vote for the Citizen. If you decide to buy one, check aroundthe net. I got mine for just over $250, including the interface, software, etc. It's been diving with me for a few years and is still doing fine onthe first battery. I do between 50 and 100 dives a year. I bought it forthe download capability, about 4 of my dives if I want details. I measuresdepth every 5 seconds and temperature every 5 minutes. You get dive number(for the day), date, day of week, time in, time out, time of dive, maxdepth, average depth, minimum temperature, average temperature and a graphof depth and temperature. There is software that will allow downloading thewatch to a Palm hand held computer available for free on the internet, letting me leave my notebook at home, where it's safer.

WATCHES CITIZEN : I don't know much about the Casio DEP-700, but I've never heard anyone choseCasio for reasons other than a price low enough that it can be replacedrelatively painlessly if it fails. I've yet to find anyone who used aHyperAqualand that doesn' t love it.Lee, have you tested the accuracy of the depth gauge? I was divingwith someone who had one, and when I compared his depth readingagainst my computer (not the Vyper I have now, but a rented US Divers, I think) there was a significant difference. His read 14ft while mineread 18ft. I had no basis for declaring either one faulty, so I waswondering if others had found the Citizen reliable. From: ()Subject: Re: Dive watches Citizen vs. Casio Newsgroups: Date: 2000/07/26 Clifford Beshers wrote

WATCHES CITIZEN : On a recent dive, I did just this. I wear 3 depth devices on most dives, Ihave matching wrist and console computers and the Citizen. My consolemounted computer, at my left hip read 62, the Citizen read 61 and the wristmounted computer read 60 feet. The variation is less than the length of myarm and may be a result of where my waist and wrist mounted devices were atthe time of my deepest point. The Citizen has been pretty consistentlywithin a foot of whatever other device I was using. What you may have experienced may have resulted from calibration of thedepth device. Some are set for fresh water, some are set for salt. Theywill read differently at the same depth. If I considered the differencesignificant, the device I would rely on most would be the computer, assuming, of course, that it's reading made sense. All diving depth devicesare measuring pressure rather than depth and it's the relationship betweenpressure and time that generates the information a computer displays. Ifthe computer gives me a ceiling of 20 feet, then it's the computer's 20 footdisplay I use to ensure I'm within that ceiling.

WATCHES CITIZEN : I dive with a Nitec C and a Hyper Aqualand side by side on my rightwrist and frequently glance at both sets of numbers as a quick sanitycheck. They are occasionally different by 1 fsw, which is within theprecision of both instruments.I have heard that some computers detect that you are diving in freshwater or salt water and indicate your actual depth rather than yourapparent depth (in fsw). Since the Hyper Aqualand indicates fsw, itwould indicate shallower than the actual depth in fresh water. If thecomputer you rented did detect the fresh water and was indicatingactual depth, this could account for some (~3%, so not all) of thediscrepancy you noted.-- Ross Bagley & Associates "We don't just write software, we help you write software better!"
